Glass bottles, once worth $.05 each if you turned them in, are now an environmental responsibility to recycle.
Topic: I was in the car today with my wife and mother. I made a comment about being about being thirsty. The first response, “Stop for a soda” my mom says. So, we stopped at a Walgreen’s to get a soda. Wal-greens was along our route and they carry sodas in more traditional or original flavors like cream soda and root beer. As I was driving along enjoying my cream soda, a thought occurred to me. When did the change occur where glass bottles were no longer able to be returned for money? Aren’t they still worth something? Where did my return fee go? Why was it not more of a big deal to people that they now pay the garbage man to take it away and the garbage company gets to keep the money keep the money? Just for the record I do recycle every week!
Is there something wrong here? I know people have talked about this before and there are states that allow you to still return bottles for the credit, but why did the switch take place? If I still wanted to be able to return the bottles shouldn’t I be able to? I know I am just babbling, but it is funny that as things change in today’s society, most people just go, “oh OK”, “whatever”, and then look the other way as if it never happened.
After a long time, nothing is the same. hmmmm, I wonder what else changes and we just look the other way?
Observation: Waste management, one of the largest garbage companies in the U.S., also my garbage company, sponsors a NASCAR racecar! Wow, I found my return money for the bottles!
Discussion:why must everything change? I understand change is inevitable, but must everything change?
