The foundation of modern human life and development has been morals, ethics, trust, common sense, and caring! Where have they gone?

Daily I listen to the news on TV, read news articles on the web from all over the world and listen to some talk radio. I have found few “news” members that I feel have gotten it right concerning what is currently wrong with our country right now.

I remember when I was a kid getting taught about the right things to do: Don’t lie, share with others, treat others how you would like to be treated, have compassion for those in need, don’t give up, never say you can’t, don’t steal, define who you are by your actions not your words. Are the days of teaching your children these values gone? It seems as though these values have left the building so to speak in today’s society.

I would like to argue that most of the problems we are facing today are not problems that are harped upon by the main stream media. The credit crisis, bank liquidity, housing market crash, government non-intervention, these are all symptoms of the true problem not the problem itself. We have lost sight of the people we should be and are on a collision course with disaster because of who we are trying to be and how we are trying to get there.

Our true problem as a nation and the most advanced people in the world, is that we have stopped being nice. We have stopped telling the truth. We steal. We stab each other in the back. We have no loyalty. We only focus on today not tomorrow. We care too much what people think of how we look instead of what kind of person we are. We do not think about things in a logical way anymore. The bottom line is that we do whatever it takes to “succeed”, both in business and in life. No matter who gets hurt, or how badly it makes us lookas a person. All most care about is “me”. There is nothing wrong with caring about yourself. It is very important. But when all the building blocks of a good and decent lifestyle are sacrificed for your success, then it is wrong. Businesses, governments, and individuals all do it today and it is ok in the eyes of most. Then to make it worse, we are teaching our children through our bad actions that it is OK as well.

We need to wake up and return to the days when people could rely on each other, trust each other, care for and love one another. return to a time when there was common sense in the decisions made. These are not pipe dreams, or euphoric ideas, they are what once was for most of the society, and that is what made us great. I listen to a radio/TV personality named Glenn Beck regularly. I like his quote, “We should be the people we were on September 12th, 2001.” I agree, for a short time after 911, we had a memory lapse. We returned to the times when important things like trust, ethics, morals, compassion mattered. How we act today was on hold.

I am a believer that the loss of all these building blocks came when we as a people decided it was OK to let ourselves and other people  remove “God” from our lives and our lifestyles. We need to change this and change it now. Lets get our morals, ethics, trust, caring, compassion and just good people back in this world to get things the way they need to be. Use your head and try to help other people become what they should be.

One Response to “The Real Problems of Today!”

I think that the article you wrote is so true. I wish that people would try and be more kind. I seem to take it personal when people forget about morals, and being kind. I think that you wrote a good article.

Something to say?
