OK, so I went to a couple of tea parties this last week. I wanted to write about the good and the bad that I experienced.
The good:
It was great to see so many people taking part in the process that is “We the people”! This country was founded on the idea that the government is there, but works for us, the people. Seeing so many people embracing that idea and making their voices heard at a time where it seems that has been forgotten, was great.
There were people there of all political parties including Democrats, Republicans, Independents and Libertarians.
The Tea parties were very informative. There were people from different associations and groups. People talked a lot. Small meetings and groups were being setup even if to just have lunch and talk about politics and the world.
Americans were protecting their rights. Right to free speech, right to assemble, Right to protect oneself with a weapon, and just the right to be “American”
Every hot topic was talked about including: Education, Taxes, Gun Rights, Government Term Limits, Capitalism, Communism, Socialism, God, Right To Speak Freely and Many more.
The Bad:
The first tea party I went to was much more diversified in respect to Political parties. The second, I must admit, was more Republican. It did seem to be more “disgruntled” Republicans.
Those who attended were label as “Right Wing Extremists”. We are even compared to Timothy McVeigh. It is a Sad day in America when as Americans we stand to speak about the things we are upset about and get labeled as “Extremists”. I stood, and I spoke, I guess that makes me an extremist!
At the second rally, there was a man that was trying to disrupt the tea party by yelling over a bull horn as the speakers were trying to talk. He also had signs. He was being purposelydisruptive by walking up in front of the speakers with his sign. He was a Sad American! But, he was doing what he is allowed by the Constitution to do; speak his mind and assemble also. Great how the Constitution allows us to do that. What would we do without it?
There seemed to be a lot of self interest from the groups that were involved. They had tables setup and I understand that they are just trying to get people to extend their level of involvement, but when they spoke, it seemed like a “Pick me” kind of scenario. Guess there is no way around that one?
Overall:
I think the tea parties were a great event to get people involved that might not have been involved before. It allowed people of like minds to be together and discuss options in the future. I did not like how the second tea party I attended became a “disgruntled” Republican event. I am registered as a Republican, but I wish I could do away with parties completely. I am a common sense American! Why can’t we all be common sense Americans? One party versus another is tired and ridiculous. As long as we have parties, the corruption will go on. We should all be able to have our opinions and just vote for what is “RIGHT”, not what our party wants us to vote for. I am hopeful that these tea parties will continue. They are important for future voters as well as existing voters so that we may try to get our country on the right track!
